| The Science of Yoga
Contrary to popular belief yoga is a science not a religion. A science of self-transformation that speeds up the natural process of our evolution. For many Yoga begins with the practice of asana ie (a hatha yoga class) combining the more subtle practice of pranayama (breathing exercises), mudra’s (body gestures), relaxation and meditation.
The
practice of Hatha Yoga originated from the ancient sages intention to create a healthy body in order to sit for prolonged periods in meditation for the goal of self realisation. Today as a result of hatha yoga and our deeper states of awareness we are more able to cope with life. The underlying purpose of all the different aspects of Yoga is to reunite the individual self (juva) with the Absolute or pure consciousness (Brahman). Therefore it does not make it a religion, just a means to access our true self. |
