Swiss Ball theory

Recent research from Queensland University has demonstrated that spinal stability provided by deep muscles is paramount in the maintenance of good posture and injury prevention. The most important spinal stabilisers identified were the tranversus abdominus (a deep abdominal muscle) and the multifidus (a deep spinal muscle). These deep postural muscles play such an important role in rehabilitation of back injuries because they stabilise the movements of the lower back. This is contrary to the common belief in the past that the rectus abdominus (the six pack muscles) were the most important muscle to target.
